I work out of my home in California. I want to post flyers to generate more business, but I don't find bulletin boards here like I did when I lived in the Southeast. So I am searching for s about how to get my information into the hands of people who are interested without spending a bundle of money. I went out with flyers ready to post them but could not find any place to post them. Anyone out there from California? Is this true all over California? Any suggestions or s about getting information out would be appreciated!
I don't live in CA so not sure how it is out there. Did you check in the grocery stores? The grocery stores here have bulletin boards. Also how about putting them on the inside of phone booths. Or see if you have a local monthly magazine. Sometimes those don't charge alot for ads.

What about checking with the city you live in? Maybe they can you with places that people advertise. Or is there a local daily or weekly newspaper that you could take an ad out? Or make the flyers on your computer and print off some...then stick them on car windows....but I'd check and make sure this is legal where you live.....I know we can do it here, but don't know if there is someone to okay it with first.

Unfortunately, here in California (or at least in the Burbank area), there are no bulletin boards for posting in grocery stores, discount stores, or drug stores that I have found. You can pay distributors to put your brochures out for $35/month in a SINGLE grocery store or $20/month for a drug store or $15/month in a 7-11 around here. I was hoping for free, so this was not good news.
Inside of phone booths -- might work - I will look for those. I do plan to put an ad in one of the local papers/mags if I can find a cheap one -- I think some are around $10/week. Putting on car windows I was considering until someone pointed out that with your name and number on it, if someone throws it down, you could get fined for littering -- California is strict about littering and solicitation.
I tried to get information from the Chamber of Commerce -- City and State. They each referred me to the other. I could join, but I don't have that much money now (I just started). Is there some other office you were thinking I could call -- I was trying to figure out who to call to ask these questions to?
Exchanging sites sounds like a good plan -- then even if we are not in the market, we can refer to others who might be. You never know... How do we exchange sites? I know we are not supposed to do any advertising here...
Thanks again. Any more s? Please keep them coming...
Oops! Yes, in response to business cards-- I need to order some right away. Just having trouble deciding what to put on them! What do you put on yours? I am doing direct sales (I guess that is what you call it -- I am an independent broker for a company) Thanks.
How about asking your hairdresser if you can post flyer there? What about at a mall, or leaving them in doctors offices, dentists, laundromats, leave one in a cart when you go , at the ATM machines, banks, flower shops, gas stations.
Just a few s.
As for business cards, Debbie, I have the name of my company, my name, phone number, ID number and the website address.
Hope this s a little.

Ask me how you can start today~
But my mother lives in California, She use to sell homes. Anyways at the time she live in Orange Grove, I use to work for her and post flyer's at each home in different neighborhoods. Of course you dont go to the homes that post, No Solicitors......and do not but in mailboxes...only hang them on door knobs. Also I use to do Cold Calling, which is, I would go thro the phone book from A-Z and call them and ask them if they want a free estimate on their home......now u would just do your own telemarketing.
Thanks to both of you for the additional s. These -- some might work. I have flyers printed with the pull tabs on them -- to get more coverage for just the cost of one sheet. But if there are no places to post these for people to see and pull the tabs off, they are worthless! So, on to maybe half-sheet flyers for individual spots -- like grocery baskets, front doors,...
I am a little nervous about putting things on people's doors--though I might try it. I guess there are not any regulations that prohibit it in California if your mother had you do it. I know in the apartment complexes sometimes restaurants do that -- but most of them are gated, and some have no solicitation signs posted. We just moved to a new apartment, and they are very strict about solicitation and littering.
