My son is on a boat for the next two weeks.
The boat is what I call a small pirate type ship.
He's gonna be learning all about life aboard a sailing ship. He'll get to swab the deck, hoist the mainsail, have night watch, and hopefully learn more about God.
The organization the puts on this thing is called S.A.L.T.S. It's based in Canada.
My mother bought my son and my nephew passage for their 16th bdays. A belated present due to the fact that my step dad had been sick with cancer and was dying at that time.
My son has been so excited about this. His girlfriend leaves on the 6th to go on a European trip with a bunch of other teens from various parts of the country.
They will be seperated for almost a month.
Needless to say, they are both sad. At least they have alot to keep their minds busy.
WOW ie, you are a good mom!! I probably would have said no to the trip , I'm such a worry wart!! I hope he had a good time. I bet you really missed him!! Sorry I missed this post when you first put it up. I am quite behind on things. I'm trying to spend more time on here though so I can be here for all of my like you have all been here for me. I'm glad he'll be home soon. I bet you are sooo excited!! Enjoy the reunion!!

That is so ! I cant wait to hear of his adventures on the pirate ship! Although, I agree with Polly, I would be having a heart attack too. I did not have a very good childhood and I guess I overcompensate with my kids. I hope I am as brave as you are when my son reaches that age.

Don't borrow sorrow from tomorrow!
I have been a little nervous, but I didn't allow myself dwell on the "what if's".
The ship is called the "Pacific Grace". It's not quite the pirate ship I thought it was. It's a little smaller. There is about 60 people on board, maybe?
It's true, I can't wait to see him and hear about all the goings on. I hope he listened and did extra stuff so he could get invited back next year. If he does get asked back, it's free!!
I have not been the kind of mom that fretted or worried alot about her kids. When I was growing if FL, we rode our bikes all over. That was when Ted Bundy was in our area. We weren't in his age group.
We climbed trees and played trapeze artists high up in the branches. We swam in the local river while the parents watched for water moccosins and alligators. It was a great childhood in that respect.
Where I live now, the road is supposedly 35mph. Right!! The 3yr old likes to "go" to grandma and grandpa's house. A couple of times we have had to get him off the road. He was pushing one of his cars or trucks down the road. Can't wait to see what he will try once he rides his bike. He's getting close.
He does come by that honestly though. His father would do stuff like that. He lived in CA at the time. At age 3 he walked to the bus stop to go the the taco guy. A bus picked him up and dropped him off in the next town at the local police station.
Now days I wonder if that would happen. It doesn't seem likely.
I'm glad he was home for all of two days and nights! The third day he left to "move in" with his grandparents for the rest of the summer. He's working for them. iepoo
