Is there a reason they wanted to add another drug? Unless he was having some serious issues that the other wasn't dealing with, hell would freeze over before I'd let them add something else.
I do not have a child that is ADHD, but I do have one that is special needs and takes meds for seizures. After tinkering with different medication combos for 2 years I finally took him off of all but one medication..the only one that ever truly seemed to control his seizures at all. I did this against the doctor's wishes, but knew that the first med did not

control his seizures and the 2nd one did. They tried to tell me that it might be the combination of the two that was controlling them, but I was willing to risk it. Hell, he'd had seizures everyday for years ... what was the difference? So, now he takes ONE medication and God willing it will always be that way. I think if you choose to medication children, for ANY reason, keeping it at a minimum is always best. Regardless of what they say we truly don't know how these medications will effect them in early childhood until later. My son does not talk at all (he's 12) and I truly believe it's because he was so doped up on seizures meds from the age of 6 months to 2 years that he just completely missed his window of opportunity.
I thank God for life saving medications and am not against the drug companies totally...but I do think that too many doctors are willing to over-medicate these days just for the kick backs they get from the drug companies. Just be careful and use your "mommy instincts". They're never wrong.
