Question Need recipie for Jam

My Dh got me this breadmaker for my b-day last Nov. and it's been great, but I discovered a little while ago that it has a "jam" function. (No kidding!) So I buy some fresh, not-so-ripe strawberries, and follow the recipie on the pectin package. The breadmaker directions say "use any recipie" but just put all the ingredients in the pan and press "Jam." On the package it says "DO NOT REDUCE SUGAR" -well, it was really more sugar than we normally use in any one place, so I reduced it by 1/2 cup. Nothing bad happened. The Jam turned out wonderfully, but it's still really too sweet. Does anyone have a recipie for Jam that doesn't require a ton of sugar?

YUMMMMM I used to make my own jams and jellies and even strawberry ice cream topping, when my kids were young and we'd go berry picking every June.

You might want to try just using less sugar, a sweetener (like splenda) or even honey and keep experimenting til it's how you want it. But then that could be time consuming and expensive.

Here's an easy recipe that might work in your bread maker...but since I don't have one I'm not sure.

4 cups sliced strawberries
1/3 cup Sugar
2 tbsp Lemon juice
1 Envelope unflavored gelatin
1/2 cup Water

In a medium saucepan, combine strawberries, sugar and lemon juice. Heat 5 minutes, crushing the berries slightly. Bring to a boil; boll rapidly, stirring constantly, 3 minutes.

In a small bowl, sprinkle unflavored gelatin over water. Let stand 1 minute. Add to strawberry mixture and heat, stirring until gelatin is completely dissolved, about 3 minutes.

Let jam stand 5 minutes, skimming off foam with a spoon. Ladle into jars. Cover and slightly before storing in the refrigerator for several weeks or in the freezer for longer storage.

LIGHTNIN-I'M SURE IM13'S JAM IS GREAT.....BUT

I also found you a alternative. Maybe you'll love both.
Here's a link for: Low-No Sugar Jams. http://www.fatfree.com/archive/1998/sep/msg00082.html this recipe calls for 1 cup to No Sugar. Please let us know, how these recipes of ours turn out.
