I have to admit, I am probably more nervous than my child. I am new to all this and my child will be starting school for the first time in the Fall. For some reason, I thought Pre-K was at 5 and didn't enroll her last year. Well, she will now be starting at Kinder. I really hope she takes the transition well, I am a wahm so she didn't go to daycare. We do go to the park some days and she seems very excited about starting school.
I already have everything needed and printed out the registration form. I even called the school to ask when they will be enrolling but they haven't set a date yet. I know I am early but I want to make sure everything is done in time. In the past, I tried to enroll her in Head Start but they were always full already well before time. Just don't want to make that mistake again.
Anyway, for those mothers already experienced I have a question:
Is there anything else I should be doing besides calling to find out registration? They don't have dates yet for meet and greet either but I am sure those will probably be in July or August. I am still working with her on academic things like spelling and writing. She already knows her alphabet and counting of course. She is getting better at writing her name and we are also working on phone numbers and address (though, that might take a while).
Is there anything I am overlooking? I feel like I have absolutely no what I am doing.
I just took my youngest to register for kindergarden yesterday. they really wanted the kids to be able to write their first name, tie there own shoes, be able to button, snap, buckle so there were no "accidents". know the basic shapes, 8 colors recognize 0-5 out of order the letters in there name out of order know the front and back of a book, ummm I know there was more but that was what stuck out in my mind.
Dont worry you are doing just fine.

Our ancestors watch, and wait, for us to identify them, and be linked to them.
Okay I have five kids, and four of them are school age now. One is in kindergarten this year. Yes, make sure you register, also make sure that she is not missing any (and I mean not a single one) of her immunizations. In my county, they recently changed the required immunizations, so I did not realize that the en pox vaccine was required now. So when I went to register Matt, they would not let me, and I had to wait to register until my dr could get us in to get the shot. Seems silly, but schools are sticklers. Also your child may need a current tb test. I know here in Los Angeles, it needs to be no more than a yr ago. None of my children went to preschool, they were home with me, and every single one of them did excellent in kindergarten. Your daughter will be no different I am sure. Also, when my kids started kindergarten, there were children in the class that could read (I mean read a book!). This discouraged me horribly, but you know what? By the time my kids have reached first grade, they were reading at a decent rate, and by the end of first grade they were reading better than their classmates. So don't let yourself get caught up in the "oh no, those kids that went to preschool are smarter" thing, it is not true, and not worth beating yourself up over. :O)
We recently relocated and I was a bit apprehensive, because I had been told that my kids would be considered to be behind, becuase of where they had attended school. Belgrade, Montana is one of the fastest growing ocmmunities in Montana and therefore the school is extremely crowded. My daughter (entering) fourth grade would have been enrolled at the middle school this year if we still lived there. Thank goodness we moved!
Anyway, they did struggle, (Olivia is in 4th grade and Becca is in 1st), but they caught on pretty fast and are now excelling. Kids tend to adapt to their environment fairly easily and this includes school I believe.
