I am the vice president of the PTSG at my kids' elementary school. This is the first year that I have been involved with the PTSG and in fact the first year that I have even heard of it at our school.
Since all of our members, including the board members, are new to this we are always looking for s and suggestions. Are you or have you been involved with your child's school's Parent Teacher Group? Any s or suggestions would be wonderful.
We have done several things this year and want to really expand our involvement next year. Currently I am in the process of organizing a 'Child Safety Night' when children can come to an Open House type program and have their photos and fingerprinting done as they recieve a child id kit. We are also going to have some speakers and materials to hand out to parents.
Another thing that I am organizing is what we hope to be our big fundraiser of the year. A 'Spring Fling Community Yard Sale'. It is going to be held in May and I am currently working on getting donations for the sale.
We are also looking for ways to the students and teachers.
We currently sponsor the Honor Roll, Stars & Superstars and AR reading parties.
We also held a 'Sweets with Santa' event at Christmas time.
So if you have s post them here. Thanks everyone!!!
How very nice that you're so involved. I always mean to make it to our meetings, but I never seem to get there. But, I did sign up and sent in a note for the PTO, to in any way I can. I have ed out so far with baked goods.

OK, this is going to sound like a terribly ignorant question,
but my oldest daughter is due to turn seven March 17th, and this whole grade school honor roll thing has me boggling. Neither my husband nor I had it as children and neither of us are sure what it takes for a child to make the honor roll?
By the way, I was a "math team mama/chaperone" for nearly two years when my niece lived with us. She's at Dartmouth now studying engineering. Taking five boys and my niece to Des Moines for a weekend was a trip and a half. Those kids never slept, never shut up, and half of them were sick with stage fright. I've never seen boys so vulnerable.
Thadea , to get on the honor roll you have to have good grades. I'm not sure what the grade point average is at the moment but that is how you get on the honor roll. On my daughters report cards it will say if they made the honor roll or not. I hope this s you. And I admire your strength for doing that trip. I would have been by the end and sworn never to do it again,.

At our school which is an elementary (PreK--5th) the honor roll only applies to students in 3rd - 5th grades. The younger ones are not graded on a point system.
For the ones who are our point system is as follows--
100-90 A
89-80 B
879-70 C
69-60 D
59 and below is F
So the students who have all A's and B's in all subjects make the honor roll. We have All A's honor roll and A's and B's honor roll. The honor roll is posted in our local paper (small community with a weekly paper) and the kids are treated to a small party at the end of each 9 weeks. We give them a goodie back of treats and a snack at the end of the school day for the party. Our school has about 550 students and about 90 to 100 make the honor roll each grading period.
Our town posts them in the paper too. All A's is called highest honors here and A's and B's is just called honors.

wss4 - I have been involved with my children's Parent Advisory Council for 5 years, three of which I have been our school's PAC Rep to our District PAC. I am the One to One Reading Program Coordinator for our school and sit on our School Planning Council;I also sit on the District PAC as an Executive Officer (Secretary) and am also a member of our District's Safe Schools Committee and an Anti-Poverty Committee.
I have chaired, co-chaired, or just volunteered on numerous school-based committees.
Our PAC has sponsored Carnivals, Country Fairs, & Bingo & Pizza Nights as well as numerous other 'school social' events.
We provide babysitters for our PAC meetings and publish a PAC Newsletter that goes out with students listing events and information. We also have the Principal and a Teacher Rep at our PAC meetings.
.....These are just a few s and I hope they .....
What does the antipoverty group do? I'd be interested in knowing if it's something that could be started where I live. There are a lot of wealthy people here (not me!!), but I know there is also a lot of poverty.

The Anti-Poverty Task Force examines poverty in our community and presents ways to combat or those in need. This includes such things as writing letters to local and provincial governments and officials and doing community presentations regarding poverty issues (homelessness for example). Currently, we are also studying the effect of budget cuts to the School Meals Program and its impact on students.
This task force consists of Representatives from various groups and organizations as well as the Ministry of Children & Families, Boys and Girls Club, and numerous others.
It is a wonderful opportunity to network with other agencies and groups and can provide s to poverty in your community!
It is a lot of work though - Especially in attempting to get all the representatives together at one time ....But it is definitely worth the effort!
