Hi there - We're planning to take our two children on the road for the holidays - 2 weeks of car time for my then 26 month old and 7 month old. Should be fun : ) We're stopping several times to visit relatives, but it's still going to be 40+ hours in the car over 2 weeks. I'm seeking any and all suggestion for on-the-road entertainment. Thanks for all suggestions!
We drove to Idaho this past June with a 5 year old and 2 year old. We went to Walmart and got a 9 inch portable tv/vcr and took that with us. I also stocked up on new exciting books and toys to take out one at a time. Hope this s.

First of all, good luck. We've never taken the kind of road trip you are going to, but we do 6-8 hr trips 2 - 3 times per year. We began doing this when my kids were a little older, but for the 26 month old, a magna-doodle and/or etch-a-sketch should keep the child entertained for a little while. We pack a tote bag for each child with new blank note books, new crayons/colored pencils, stickers, story books and a few snacks. Oh, we also try to have a few CD's or tapes for them and will alternate their music with some music that doesn't make the adults want to scream. Obviously all of these s won't work for your children as they are younger, but maybe these will spark something for you.
movies are great. do you have a lab top with dvd you can take that also go to the laubry you can get those adio books I loved them when I was little and my son likes them
I used to travel with me 2 when they were lil like that... and what we did was Travel at night as much as we could... because the kids would be ing... also If you do travle at night or in the dark, Buy GLOW STICKS they really entertained my kids plus they add some light to the back seat..
I agree with all of the above suggestions... GOOD LUCK again!
When we travel long distances with Shawn we pack a bag full of toys and books and one with snacks. We also stop at every rest area he is awake for. When he's a we don't stop. It takes a little longer but well worth it, I think. GOOD LUCK!!!

I agree on the Magna doodle and lots of books. My daughter was just 12mos when we took our first 12-14hr car ride to NC she loved the Magna Doodle then. when she was almost 2 we went to PA, another 12hr and while she was awake she played with the magna doodle and looked at a lot of books and her babydolls. Im sure a tv would be great, I dont have one for the car or the room in my car for one. Good luck, just be sure to take plenty of stops! Hope your not potty training yet?! it could be rough on the road.
I know when my brother travels to to New York to see us (Mom, my sister, my hubby, my son and i) it's a 12 hour trip with two little ones and he has a tv and a vcr in the car (or was it a dvd player) to keep the kids focused on something
Better him than me, then again, i've done a 8 hour bus ride with a 4 year old and he enjoyed it

We took a 10 hour road trip this past summer to Va with our then almost 13 month old. we left on a friday night aftera nap. so she was awake most of the time we were going. she liked looking out the window and playing with her feet for a while. then she would play toss with what ever we handed her. we stoped in Va about 4 hours into trip for the night so she got to run around for a bit and burn some of her energy. the next we had 6 hrs to go. she was a trooper and was good most of the day. We did stop about every two to 3 hours to stretch and change diapers etc. we over packed for her so we knew we had enough toys and things she liked to keep her busy. Good Luck and let us know how it goes.
Magnetic games are also good for a long car trip.
My daughter has a travel scrabble game that she loves to play while we are traveling.
