Smile Recommendation for the kids?

What are some movies with good messages you show your kids? I like to watch movies with them and we don't just choose the cartoons/yuks-type movies either. I enjoy movies that don't talk down to the children and are enjoyable for all ages.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

I really enjoyed the new remakes of "The Parent trap" and "Freaky friday."

Wink Movies for kids

Hi,

I would definitely not recommend Happy Feet. My father-in-law and I actually got into an argument about this one! I haven't really been real impressed with any of the newer movies out right now. My sister-in-law said Flushed Away was pretty decent, but I haven't seen it.

I will definitely pass on "Happy Feet" then. I agree, not many good family movies as of late.

We thoroughly enjoyed "Ella Enchanted" (it was similar to a live action "Shrek"). We were not too thrilled with "Hoodwinked!" though.

I also like "Stand by Me," "Now and Then," and "My side of the mountain."

I haven't heard of My Side of the Mountain. We also enjoyed Ella Enchanted -- my two girls have seen that one. I liked Labrynth growing up, but I'm not sure if it may be too old for my 7 year old. But it was a good movie.

Thumbs up

I'd have to screen "Labyrinth" again to see.

They seem to enjoy "The Neverending Story." That was a fun movie. I loved it growing up, but not the sequels.

"The Sound of Music" and "The Wizard of Oz" are classics as well. I try not to show too many Disney fairy tales such as "The Little Mermaid" and "Beauty and The Beast" because I think their adaptations send wrong messages.

I watched this movie called "The Climb" which I simply d. It had the adorable Gregory Smith from that tv series a few years back called "Everwood." The story was about him trying to climb a tower to prove his courage. It was fun, exciting, and just everything that made a good movie. We saw it on tv a while back so I'm going to look more into where to watch it again.

Also, this summer we are all going to be first in line for Shrek 3!

Yes, I loved the Never Ending Story as well. We have that on DVD now and my girls really like it. They have made an awful lot of sequels to that and my oldest has seen a few of them and has said that she doesn't care for them either.

The Princess Bride is okay for my 10 year old -- she liked that one.

Yes, Shrek 3 looks like fun! That 'The Climb' movie sounds interesting; I will have to check it out some I think. Thanks!

Yes, always hold out for the real thing, "Shrek." They seem to have tried to put out imitators like "Happy Never AFter," which we saw in theaters and did not like.

"Hoodwinked" was enjoyable but nowhere near the same as "Shrek" 1 and 2. Can't wait!!

Do share more recommendations whenever you get the chance! I enjoy reading them and then deciding what movie to get for the weekend.

Have you seen Arthur and the Invisibles? My kids said it looked cute -- just wondering your opinion and if you've seen it!

Thanks you too!

I haven't actually heard of that one. I shall look it up. I may have vaguely heard about it but it must've left cinemas pretty fast!

Yeah, I remember a little like last summer or something -- we saw a poster on our way out of Wal-Mart for it and the girls both said they had wanted to see it and they heard it was good. The picture looks cute -- but you never know!

Smile

So I found the page for the movie The Climb here Official site!

Gregory Smith is just adorable! It's a great movie to show what the meaning of family is too, as the boy's mom passed away in the movie (as I recall).

I put a photo of him in this message from the movie. He's grown up to be a great kid, it seems.

We'll be watching Spider Man 3 this weekend.. I hope it isn't too violent or dark. Kids just love him though!

I actually didn't think Spiderman 3 was as good as the second one! There was a little too much going on and it wasn't as fun as the first two! :( Let me know what you thought!
