We were in Maryland earlier this month and found out a friend was within a few weeks of passing away due to Cancer. He died on 12/21 leaving behind a widow and an eight year old dtr of his own. Upon hearing my dh and I discuss his impending death, my dd,who is 10, piped up from the back seat "Heather won't have a very good Christmas, and that is wrong! Can we have a toy

for her, Mom?" That is what we did. She went to her

and got them to donate some gently used toys, so her friend would have a good Christmas. One of my dd's friend's parents went to the church where she is a member and they contributed about 20 wrapped gifts for the child as well. On Thursday, my dd and I met the girl and her Aunt at the halfway point between our houses and delivered all of the gifts. The girls, who hadn't seen a lot of each other since last May, got to have lunch with each other and renew their

hip. When I told my dd that now she was Heather's Santa - she informed me that she was only one of Santa's

ers and that she couldn't be Santa because she was a girl. Yes, she still believes in the big guy in the red suit! And is very proud to have been one of his

ers this year.
I am so proud of my dd for reaching out to someone else without prompting and accomplishing such a worthwhile project.
