Italian Meat Sauce
1 ½ pounds ground round
2 cups sliced fresh mushrooms
½ cup chopped onion
2 large cloves garlic, minced
¼ cup Burgundy or other dry red wine
2 teaspoons dried Italian seasoning
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon black pepper
1/8 teaspoon ground red pepper
1 (28-ounce) can tomato puree
Crumble beef into a microwave safe colander; set colander in a glass pieplate. Microwave, uncovered, at high 8 to 9 minutes or until browned, stirring every 3 minutes; set aside. Discard drippings.
Combine mushrooms, onion, and garlic in a 3-quart casserole. Cover with wax paper, and microwave at high 5 to 6 minutes or until onion is tender. Add beef, wine, and remaining ingredients to casserole, stirring well. Cover and microwave at high 6 minutes or until thoroughly heated, stirring once. Serve over hot cooked pasta.
