we spend on average 100. a week If I have it to spend. there are some weeks we only have 50-60 including diapers to spend. I try to stock up on good weeks so there isnt to much to get on the others.
I guess I should say there are four of us 2 adults our 11 yr old daughter (who can out eat me) and Ally who is 22 months
Also I dont buy snacks except for ally and then its usually goldfish or Cheerios.

We spend about $300 for a family of 4. I'm always looking for ways to reduce that.

Oh my, we spend about 150 per week for a family of five. I really want to reduce that as far as I possibly can. I try to cook inexpensive foods except for special occaisions or just for a once in a while treat. I would like to bring mine down to about 80 per week, any suggestions out there?
I was spending $150.-$175. every 2 weeks, but we have to save alot of money, cuz of buying the house, I brought it down to $80.-$90. I have been at Aldi's (UGH) but whatever works!
I used to shop at Aldi's years ago when I was a single mom, but I have only gone a couple of times since we moved to Arkansas. I may try Sam's Club again. I buy foods for Jordan's school lunches. Since I work at the school, I bring a warm lunch to him when I go to work.
I only find a few coupons that work for me. Usually, the brands I have coupons for are priced higher. I go to Walmart and for a lot of things, I buy the store brand because it is a lot less. Since I am only working part time I need to save as much as I can. I find my biggest problem is buying things I don't need even when I make a list. It is usally things that I didn't realize I bought the week before. I have decreased the grocery bill by about fifty dollars per week, but I want to get it lower. I am going to keep working on it and maybe changing the way I cook even more.
Hi, I am new here, this is my first post, so I hope I am doing it right!
I live in Canada so the $ will be different, but we try to average $80 week and there is my husband, my 10 month old and I. I don't come accross that many coupons, but would love to find more.
I would love to reduce the amount on groceries we spend. And i use coupons and all, and still can't save . I go to the store with all these coupons in my hand, and dont use half of them, cause half of them ain't worth it, plus it takes sooooo long to shop. And then when i get home, my kid's holler , what did you buy, you did'nt get anything. It's so terrible the way the prices are today.I had heard lettuce was going to go up to 2.00 a head, lord it's getting where you can't even have a salad for supper anymore. There has got to be a cheaper way to buy groceries and save some money. I'm to get on to this, but it really makes me so mad to go out there and spend that much money for food, and show you have nothing. Does everyone understand where i'm coming from?
Jacobsmom ... really glad you stopped in to post and sure hope you will post more here at Momzone!!!
We spend on average about $100-110 a week for a family of four plus two dogs and a guinea pig. I have to include the pets because their needs come out of the household grocery money!!
That's an amount that I really should weedle down and have in the past but when you have a little extra ... you want to spend it on food
The things I do when I work at reducing my spending are pretty simple and common. I shop at Aldi for the things my family has agreed are as good as at the grocery store. I usually spend about $40-60 at Aldis and I would bet that would translate easily to $100 at the grocery store. My son is such a picky eater and lunches he will only eat certain things so I have to fill it with the best snack items I can UGH. After Aldi I go to our Wal-Mart Supercenter and pick up the balance of what I need in the way of groceries. I have made it a point to memorize the average price of staple items so that when I read the fliers from other stores on Sundays I know whether Wal-Mart is still less expensive. Coupons don't really work for me because I don't usually purchase name brand as they are so expensive. However, on of our locals grocery stores does offer double coupons up to 99 cents so if I have one and the double coupon price makes it less expensive than Wal-Mart then I go for it The key to saving money is to do your homework ... read all the sale fliers from stores, keeping a price book s too (that is a notebook that records the average prices of items that you use for each store that you would consider purchasing groceries at). One of the big things I LOVE doing is when they reduce the price of meats due to expiration dates ... I stock up as much as I can afford to ... I may end up spending close to $200 but I have meats for well into the next month!! I've also pulled away from purchasing those expensive side dish mixes like the flavored rice packets or instant biscuit mixes, waffle and pancake mixes (although Aldis can be pretty competitive to my homemade version) and I make them all from scratch. The recipes I have make more than an average product and it costs less.
Anyway, those are my little tips ... they really work ... when I follow them LOL.
Fancyfree ... YOU BET!! I know exactly what you are talking about. It's so very frustrating because everything is so high!! It's even worse when kids feel peer pressure to have the same snacks as their friend ... that s me NUTS!!!! I don't usually bend in those instances but there are time when I feel so bad that I get that stuff for my son ...
The other thing that s me nuts is when those magazines come out with articles about SAVE HUNDREDS ON GROCERIES then they have these so-called experts who tell you how to save all that money ... yet they NEVER show you the register tape so you can see what they are buying and how they use their coupons and rebates. I don't know about you but most of the coupons I get specifically state you cannot use the coupon in conjunction with any other coupons yet those articles talk about these people doing just that!!! Now maybe a checkout clerk might not be observant enough to notice it and if you are lucky enough to get past the register computer not noticing it either ... I would feel downright dirty because that is basically stealing because the manufacturer will not honor those coupons that were doubled up on.
Anyway, hopefully more people will chime in and give their tips on saving at the grocery store.
