Is your child going to a school in another city in your state? My daughter is at UC Davis here in Calif., she had to be in a dorm for the first year, dorm had some floors all guys and other with girls. Her floor had about 50 girls, two to a room, all shared a common room.
If going in a dorm take only what is needed, comp., printer, lock for comp., may need a vacuum to clean room, maybe a small TV, some pictures, bike to get around and a lock, for other items check with a local Bed Bath & Beyond store they have a list of what should be brought for dorm.
Every time we went up we would bring snacks for her and some food for her little ref. that she had.
Thanks Kathleen for the advice. It does . We're still deciding on the dorm. The college she wants to go to is only about 30 minutes away and she can but I'm worried about the winter time. We are working on filling out financial aid forms. Boy they want to know more than I do... I'm not sure if it's worth filling out though because I don't think we'll get any anyway. I think my hubby makes too much. I'm waiting on her ACT scores because if she scores high enough she can get a full scholarship through the state no matter what our income is. That would be so ful. She is going into the criminal justice program and then she'll swith colleges in two years and do the forensic science program. I am getting to be a nervous wreck over all of this but I guess it'll work out. Someone told me books cost between $500 and $700 dollars a semester. Is that true? Ugh!! too much info for my brein right now. Thanks again for your and I hope you are enjoying momzone. I've been seeing you around but haven't gotten to talk to you much yet. But I'm sure we'll keep ing into each other.

I remember filling out all of those papers. it is scarey and I hated it when they ask all those ?.
have you or your daughter/son check out the web called Fastweb? What you do is indicate what major child is going for, list college. You will be surprised of all the scholarships that are out there.
School books are expense if you could find used books at the school, or if you can order on the internet like Barnes & Noble or any other site if you have ISB numbers. Or my daughter has a friend who brought a book for a class that she also has latter in the day so they share the book and some teachers have notes on the internet so that work can be done out of the class.
into you and drink plenty of to stay alert in filling out all those papers and staying warm where you are.
Here in Calif it has been but not like where you are.
kathleen, for the info. I'll have to check that stuff out. Sorry it took me so long to write back. I havent' been on much. ONly a few minutes at a time until today. I think I'm going to go take a nap. 4am is too early for me to get up and stay up. Oh well, no work and no school today so no rush to get things done anyway. . Talk to you soon.
