Chatty Daughter In Law to be

Hi!

My problem is my soon to be daughter in law - she calls all of the time to chat. I am currently working a number of jobs part time while starting my own business and raising a 10 year old daughter. While I want to foster a good relationship with my son's future wife, I have stuff to do that can't be done while on the phone. If I tell her I am busy she just calls back later - she doesn't get that I am always busy and when I am not, I have things I want to do besides talk on the phone about her life. She is 22 as is my son. When my son calls we talk about events, books, movies, philosophy, etc. and not about his day and what his have said and done.

I admit now that she is working the phone calls have diminished, but I am dreading the time when they have children and she starts quits work to stay home because she will be calling daily again.

How do you politely tell someone not to call so often without hurting the relationship?

I screen all my calls, day or night, because I am busy with my 2 year old & my time is precious.

That way if I want to talk I will pick it up, if not I will call them later when I feel like talking.
this may work for you?

Hmmm that is a tough one because as you said you want to have a good relationship with her. And sometimes using the I"m busy line everytime they call just doesn't get through to them. Like you said she just calls back later. Do you think you can talk to your son and have him explain it to her so her feelings won't get hurt? Hope things work out for you. Keep us posted. This may be a good learning experience for all of us.

I'm going to share with you a situation somewhat like yours that I am going through. My 12 year old daughter has a friend who is a very sweet girl but left to herself too much. Well she used to call my daughter umpteen times a day ,then we grounded my daugher from the phone and other things because she got a bad report card. Well as much as I love this little friend, it was kind of nice not getting so many phone calls. Well guess what, she has decided that since she can't talk to Summer, my youngest daughter, she calls to talk to me or my oldest daughter. And we keep telling her we're busy because we are. We try to take some time when we can to talk to her because she has had a very rough life, medically speaking, and she is left to herself all the time but this is getting very annoying. Any clues on how to handle this one. We check the caller ID when we can but often she calls when we are on the other line and my caller ID doesn't show up who it is!! Help!!
