Getting started

I would love to homeschool my daughter. Can anyone tell me how to get started? I'd really appreciate it thanks. Beverly

Depends on your state, and local laws. You need to notify the local school with the materials used, books, etc. Depends on if you go with a set cirriculum, or with pick and choosing different books, it all depends on what your child needs. We use the library for most of our books. Lots of different ways. Ages of the kids, locations, support groups found, field trips co-ordinated. It's not all fun and games, but it is very nobel. It's something that will overwelm you, confuse you, and sometimes scare you, but boy, when your child gets it!! That is something you don't want to miss out on. It's up there with first steps, first words, etc. By all means about it, listen to counsel, but be aware of those who think we're not doing good for our kids. This is your child, and you are the one responsible for this child. Remember, to have fun with it. If it's too much at the time, take a break, and come back in a little bit. You're not on public schools schedule. I hope this s. if you need any more , let me know. Merry Christmas

I went to a meeting about it and it was VERY confusing (made me feel stupid). There are alot of families around here that homeschool but there are so many different methods. Also I'm not sure my daughter would listen to me.She's six and loves school but there have been some scary things happening in the school system that alot of parents worry about sending there kids.Plus the amount of homework they have for a first grader. It's a to get her to do it.Her teacher said shes in the top of her class and s the other kids do there work.Shes smart and picks things up very fast except math.(That she gets from me)I'm not good at math either. If she can't figure something out she tries different ways until she gets it.She missed a week of school and the teacher was surprised she got right back into the lessons.I 'm just not sure.

What I did was talked to people we knew who did this. At first, we went with Christian Liberty Accademy. They sent us the whole years work, plus we got a report card for them. After getting more comfortable teaching at home, we went without the report cards, and did the grading ourselves. It's to the point where I don't buy books anymore, we use the library alot!! Either way, what ever you decide, remember you were the first teacher this child had, and their is no reason to think anyone else can do what you've been doing all along. At the first few years, the work isn't hard for you. You won't mess up, even if they don't get to a subject right away, it can be caught up when needed. Relax (get it? the name? relaxedmom?) and enjoy your child!! Happy New Year.
