Mother with anorexia

My mother is anorexic. I am a watching her die before my eyes at the age of 52. She will not get help. She was in the hospital for a week or so about a year ago, but her family doctor let her leave, even though her psychiatrist recommended that she not be released. She also is maniac depressive and refuses to take medication. She also refused to have a phone, so I can't check up on her--I live about 45 minutes away.

Any perspective on how I can deal with this? I know that I am not her parent, but it kills me to see her throwing her life away. I have tried to reason with her, but I know that she won't change unless she wants to. Both I and my little sister have flirted with anorexia in the past, and I still struggle at times.

If you are the praying type, please say a prayer for my mom. She went to the hospital for tests today because she was unable to work last week because of pain in her stomach. I heard about it from her boss. I am hoping that they will keep her there so she can get better.

Update on my mom

My grandma called the hospital to see if my mom was there. They didn't keep her for treatment. No one else has heard anything.

Thanks Polly for replying. It is nice to know that you are heard sometimes, even if it is just one person.

My mom has lost her job and now she has to give up her apartment. She told my brother that the tests found "nothing."
