101 Ways to Lose Weight

I recently ordered some light cookbooks and with each I got something for free.

With one I got a book with 101 tips to lose weight and keep it off.

So, for the next 101 days, I'll post going in order in the book, one a day.

Hopefully, this will some of us to get moving and eat better.

Tip #1

Consult your physician:

The most important thing to do when considering weight loss is to talk with your dostor. He/she is an invaluable source of nutrition and information. Your doctor can assist in monitoring your progress and suggest alternatives if you're not achieving your desired goals. Plus, it's important to be aware of any pre-existing health concerns that can be affected by a change in diet or activity. Having a physician on your weight-loss team is a sure way to win.

I'm glad you liked this....
Besides..with me writing them for all of you is also getting me to read them!

Tip # 2

Aim for losing weight slowly:

The slower you take off extra pounds, the greater teh chance that they'll stay off. The newest recommendations set a reasonable pace for weight loss at 1/2 to 1 pound per week.

You're all very ! It was the Cooking Light Cookbook. The publishing company is Oxmoor House: http://oxmoorhouse.com

Tip # 3

Resist the urge to cut too many calories:

If those extra pounds come off slowly, and you find yourself getting impatient, resist the urge to cut more calories to try to lose weight faster. Severly restricting calories may rob your body of hte nutrients you need to stay healthy, and it can cause your metabolism to slow down. When that happens, you may be more likely to regain the weight you've lost (and more) when you go back to a normal diet. Increase your time instead.

Oh my, I've been sloughing off I guess, forgot all about this...

Tip #4

Draw a fortune:

Fill a decorative glass jar near your refigerator with "fortunes" written on small strips of paper. Include a variety of nonfood mood-lifters that appeal to you such as: call a good firned; take a 10-minute walk; play catch with the puppy; to the oldies. When you're tempted to grab an unscheduled snack, draw a fortune instead.

Tip #5

Keep a Postive Attitude:

Here are some strategies to you keep a positive attitude while trying to lose weight:

**Make a list of all the healthy reasons for losing weight so that your goal is to feel good as well as to look good

**Limit high-calorie foods you love, but don't eliminate them. Just eat them less often and in small portions

**Dish up a single serving at meals and immdiately refrigerate leftovers

**Avoid the starve-all-day, stuff-yourself-at-night routine. Eat at least three main meals to keep your appetite under control

**Keep a food diary to find out what triggers you to overeat. Once you figure out the cause, it's easier to change unhealthy habits

**Think of eating as a balancing act. It's okay to indulge on occasion if you cut back at the following meal or the next day

**Rethink the "clean-your-plate" phrase. It's better to throw out the last few bites than to consume extra calories when you're not really hungry

**Opt for the long-term commitment. Because it's either too much food or too little activity (or a combination of both) that cases weight gain, successful weight loss requires the development of new behaviors. Too many dieters follow a weight-loss plan or program for o nly a short tiem, and then they resume their old habits. Changes need to be permanenet if weight loss is to be permanent.

Here are 10 tips I just saw in an Email newsletter:
10 Healthy Changes You Make Today

1. Exercise for 20 minutes.

2. Skip dessert. Save yourself the aggravation
of the extra calories and save dessert for
special occasions.

3. Drink more water. If you find it hard to
drink enough water in the day then try
spiking it with lemon, lime, or an
unsweetened juice, such as cranberry
or blueberry.

4. Tip the teacup. Drinking tea is a easy
way to you slow down and savor
the moment.

5. Smile and more. It seems so
simple. Smiles and ter to release
serotonin to the brain and a happier and
healthier brain makes for a happier and
healthier body.

6. Play with your kids. Ever wonder
how kids get so much energy. Maybe it
has to do with the fact that they love to
play and move their body. Do the same
and you just might find you have more
energy as well.

7. Schedule a playdate with your girl.
Girl are good medicine. A couple of
hours with a good friend is healthy.

8. Eat something leafy and green.
Women need the nutrients in leafy
green veggies, so eat up!

9. Write. Get a journal, keep it by your
bed, and write your thoughts of the day.
Try to always include something positive,
something you did for yourself, and a goal
you're working to achieve.

10. Take a . Relax. Enough said.

Thank you for posting, Chris....those are great s!!

Tip #6

Drink a fruit shake:

All milkshakes are not created equal. While there are many milkshakes you should avoid, they don't all have to be off limits. Instead of loading up on a fat-laden milkshake with ice cream and chocolate, try one with fat-free ice cream that's chock full of fruit. We recommend our Refreshing Fruit Shake (recipe below). Let's face it, if you're a woman, you could use the additional calcium anyway.

Refreshing Fruit Shake

Freeze the strawberries and banana for 30 minutes; frozen fruit makes the shake thicker.

1 1/2 cups halved strawberries
1 banana, sliced
1 (8-ounce) can crushed pineapple, undrained
2 tablespoons honey
3 cups vanilla fat-free ice cream

Combine all ingredients in a blender; process until smooth, stopping once to scrape down sides. Pour mixture into glasses. Yield: 5 servings (serving size 1 cup).
