got a new sewing machine... need some help

I got a new sewing machine for Christmas from DH. Now I need some !

I was thinking about making some draft guards (you know the things you put along the doors to keep the air out). I was wondering if anyone could me?

I was thinking about using some of my son's holey jeans, do you think that if I stuff the legs full of stuffing and sew the ends shut that it would work?

I'm not the best seamstress... my mom was a professional seamstress, so she would do all this stuff for me.

I was also thinking about making a couple of pot holders for my cast iron skillets that slip over the handles. Any s on that?

And I've always wanted to make a quilt. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to get an easy pattern to begin with?

Thanks for any you can give! It is greatly appreciated!

For draft guards you should stuff them with something heavy to hold them down a bit. I am about to make some myself. I am going to use plain white fabric and stuff them with beans. The beans weight it down to actually hold the air out.
I think using old jeans is a great . I may have to see if I can find some old jeans to work with. I think that would look great. I have 3 to make- all over sized windows.
Good luck!

Wow that sounds to us old jeans. I would us beans and some stuffing to give it some havey ness but then some softness to. With quilting i don't know anything about it but there are some magazines out there and theres some quilting groups to. I have a few in my small town but yet to get into one. pot holdes hmmmm I would us some color fabrics that match your kitchen and then get some of the quilting stuffing to us on the inside. hope i was some .
