Recipe Poll

The way you follow a recipe speaks volumes about the kind of person you are. Take a look at how the other ladies answered. Did each one that you know personally answer in the way you thought they would? What do you think the answers say about the other ladies on the board?

I look at a recipe or two and use them as starting points. I will usually follow a recipe pretty closely the first time I make it, then wing it from there. I hate constraints.

I'm kind of split, sometimes I look at a couple and take off on my own and sometimes I will follow the recipe and adjust to my family's tastes. Not sure what all that says about me though!

That's not an easy question Linda. I answered the 3rd choice, that I choose a recipe or two and go from there, but with baking you pretty much have to stick to amounts, although adding or omitting things is something I do alot. Then there's some that I pretty much stay with and others where I make some substitutions of my own.

I picked change to my families taste, but I actually do all depending on what I am making. The first time a make a new recipe I usually follow it, then I change it to what my family likes. Then sometimes I see a recipe and make my own variation. And I always like to make my own .

So Ladies, most of you who answered this one are not anal recipe followers! Good for you.

I think that once you pretty much know the baking formula, anything goes Like last nite, I made chocolate chip s. Well, instead of the 1/2 brown sugar and 1/2 white sugar I used all brown sugar and I added chocolate extract. And, by the way they are very tasty! The base stays the same but you change the extras!

I picked number 2. Although it would not let me vote and NEVER does let me vote on any of the Polls. Everytime I try to vote I get this:

The action you have attempted could not be performed as your session appears to be invalid. Click the below link to attempt this action again with a new session.
Try this action again!

So I try again and it still doesn't work. Oh well, anyway I have taught myself to cook over the years. I never pay attention when my mom cooked; so I've gone from making fish sticks to making some pretty dang good meals. This is one thing that I am proud of about myself.

I get chocolate extract at cooking stores or bakery supply or we have Wegmans grocery that has a natural food section and I can always find it there.

I voted that I folllow the recipe, then change according to my families taste, but that isn't always true. Some things that I've made for years I don't use recipes for anymore. And some things I make like my grandmother did; I just add things until it tastes right (this works best for me with soups and muffins). Unlike her, I always write down what I did in case it's terrific. She'd just remember.

Blessed be, Chandra

I basically follow the recipe the first time unless i can figure out a shortcut. Or leave out shrooms cuz I am the only one that likes them. Has anyone tried a can of coke in there chilli? It's very good! And Linda I will have to try your sugar change sometime. Are you talking about chocolate flavoring liquid like almond or mint or .............. all the other flavors for candy making??????

Alice, it's chocolate extract, like vanilla extract. Not flavoring. The sugar change in s is really good. They taste more carmelly than when you have both.:D
