Thumbs up Various household and cooking tips

Broccoli stems can be cooked in the same length of time as the flowers if you make X incisions from top to bottom through stems.

Sometimes ice cream that has been opened and returned to the freezer forms a waxlike film on the top. To prevent this, press a piece of waxed paper against the surface of the remaining ice cream and reseal the carton.

Use small marshmallows as candleholders for a birthday cake. They prevent the wax drippings from running into the frosting.

To keep ice cream from leaking through the bottom of a cone, put a marshmallow in the bottom.

Treat a red-wine spill on the rug with ordinary shaving cream from an aerosol can. Then sponge off with water. Always test on an out-of-sight area first. Or immediately cover the stain with a liberal amount of salt or baking soda. Leave until the stain is completely absorbed, then vacuum. Or remove with club soda.

Your child will be able to hold onto a glass of milk better if you place two tight rubber bands around the glass an inch apart. This makes it easier for little hands to hold.

If the top of your cake is browning too quickly, place a pan of warm water on the rack above the cake while it is baking in the oven.

Store cottage cheese in carton, upside down. It will keep twice as long.

Those are really great! A carpet man told me that if you pour white wine on spilled red wine it neutralizes it and will take out the red color. Then pour salt on it and scrape it up. blot with a clean white rag. And NO stain!

HMMMM never heard that before, but if it didn't take the stain out you could always suck on the carpet, drink the wine(s) and then not give a darn about any ol' staiins :D
