Hi everyone! I am working on a cookbook for my daughter for her 9th birthday! She wants to be a chef when she grows up. Her birthday is in April. I have been collecting recipes for her. My question for you:

Do you have any easy recipes that you make together with your children?

I would be so happy if you would share them with me! Thank you so much! It can be any type of recipe! She loves to make it all. Thanks so much for your !

Chocoalte covered marshmallows

Made at Christmastime by our family, give as gifts

1 bag Large marshmallows
1 Hershey bar, large size
1-2 TBSP butter
sprinlkes, coconut, crushed nuts or crushed graham crackers (to decorate)
wax paper
lined trays
tiny bowls & 1 microvave-proof bowl, medium size

Melt chocolate bar (after breaking into pieces) and 1 TBSP butter about 1 min on HI in microwave. Stir to melt completely.*

Dip top of marshmallow into chocolate, let excess drip off. "Stamp" marshamallow in bowl of sprinkles, cocnut or whatever you are using to decorate.
Place on to wax paper, decorated side UP. Cool in fridge 20-30 mins until set.

*You can "re-melt" chocale if hardens. If gets too thick, this with more butter.

Yummy & easy!

Bruinsmama that sounds yummy and fun. I'm going to copy that for my kids.

Lulu, where do you get your energy. I vote for you for mom of the year, girlfriend!!!

Here is a recipe that I was just told about and got to try the results. mmm yummy. I'm not sure what they are called but easy to make:

You will need:
1 bar of chocolate
Ritz Crackers
Peanut Butter

To Make:
Slowly melt chocolate in pan, Put peanut butter between 2 ritz crackers, After Chocolate is melted, roll Crackers w/peanut butter in chocolate. Let on Wax paper. My friend who made these cut the wax paper in squares big enough to wrap one in so when they are ed all you have to do is wrap them up or eat them!!!

Good luck!!!

This isn't really an eatable recipe but its fun to do with kids for decorations.

Dough Handprints

NOTE: This recipe takes some experimenting. Please try the recipe
BEFORE using it in a group setting.

This project is rated VERY EASY to do.

What You Need

2 cups of flour
1 cup salt
1 cup water
Food coloring
Ribbon
Gold marker
Wax paper

How To Make It

1.Add food coloring to the water. I use pink for girls, blue for boys.
2.Mix all ingredients well, kneading until smooth. Dough should be pretty stiff, not soft or
runny or it will fill with air bubbles when baking.
3.Form dough into a ball, of about what you can enclose in your two hands, and form into
a round smooth ball.
4.Using a rolling pin with the dough on wax paper, roll out into as round of a circle as you
can. Dough will be about 1/2 inch thick.
5.Press your child's hand with fingers splayed into the dough. Depending on child's age,
you will have to and individually press their fingers. Make sure to press deep enough
without going completely to the bottom. (When it bakes it tends to raise the handprint
up.)
6.Put on a sheet.
7.Use a chop stick or pencil, etc. to make two holes in the top about 1/2 inch apart. This
will be used to string the ribbon through.
8.Bake at 200 degrees for about 2-3 hours. Dough should be fairly hard but watch to see
that it doesn't burn.
9.When they are done and ed, use a gold marker pen and write the child's name and
date (year). I put the child's name on top and the year on bottom, if there is room. If
not, I put name on one side and year on one side. I tie a ribbon at the top (blue or pink
- or gold) to use as a loop to hang.

Marshmallow Snowmen

You make a snowman out of marshmallows using a hpick to hold the head and body together and then insert hpicks for arms and legs....then you fill the hpicks with cheerios or fruit l and to hold the cheerios in place you place a gum drop or ju ju jube, whatever you like on the ends. We used food colouring and a hpick to make the faces, you know, blue or green eyes, red mouth, etc. For the snowmans hat we used a bigger gumdrop on top. These can be wrapped in cello bags with a ribbon and little tag.

Lulu - this may be a little more than you were asking for, but I think it is such an interesting recipe for a little chef to be's cook book.

Psychedelic Lollipops
Recipe courtesy Gale Gand
Show: Sweet Dreams Episode: Candyland

Recipe Summary
Prep Time: 15 minutes Cook Time: 15 minutes
Yield: 20 servings

2 cups sugar
2/3 cup corn syrup
2/3 cup water
1/2 teaspoon orange extract
Few drops food coloring (yellow, blue, red)

On a silpat or parchment lined baking tray, lay out lollipop sticks in rows, leaving 2 inches of space between them for fun free-form lollipops.
Combine the sugar, corn syrup, and water in a clean, dry, small saucepan (preferably one with a pouring spout) fitted with a candy thermometer and bring to a boil over high heat. Without stirring, cook until the mixture reaches 305 degrees F or "hard crack" stage on the candy thermometer. (While the syrup is cooking, occasionally wash down the sides of the pan with a clean brush dipped in water, to prevent crystallization.) Set up an ice bath in a sink.

When the mixture is done, remove the pot from the heat and dip it into the ice bath for 15 seconds to stop the cooking. Remove the pot of syrup from the ice bath and stir in 1/2 teaspoon orange extract. Divide the sugar mixture between 2 heat-safe measuring cups. Color 1 measuring cup with yellow food coloring and the other with blue food coloring, stirring very gently with a wooden skewer so that the color is evenly distributed. To avoid air bubbles in the finished lollipops, stir the mixture gently in both directions, but be careful not to over mix.

Pour or carefully spoon a little of the syrup around each lollipop stick, creating freeform designs covering at least a 1/4-inch of the end of each lollipop stick. Then add blue coloring to the yellow measuring cup to make green and add red food coloring to the blue measuring cup to make purple, and pour more syrup onto the pops.

Re-warm the syrups in the microwave a few seconds at a time if they are cooling too much and setting up. Cool the lollipops for at least 20 minutes, until hard. Lift off the pan and store in an airtight container for up to 1 week, or 2 to 3 days if the weather is very humid.

Notes about the recipe: Lollipops are the last thing you expect to see on a petit-four tray in a fancy restaurant ? so that's why I like to serve them last at mine. People burst out laughing when these jewel-like treats arrive on a silver platter after dessert. But then they sit back and savor those suckers right down to the stick! I never get tired of watching Chicago's most elegant diners licking lollipops like kids ? and taking a last few minutes to enjoy the evening.

Using a very long stick makes these lollipops look and feel more fancy. The flower petals are also very pretty ? but optional. If you plan to make these without lollipop molds, just arrange the sticks and petals on the cookie sheet. Let the syrup cool a bit to thicken it slightly, and then pour it over the ends of the sticks.

Okay Lulu

Have a blast!!!! This site is GREAT!!! They have sooo many great recipes and scientific experiments and such. It's the ZOOM website from pbskids.org. I don't know if you have already had an opportunity to look at this or not, but your daughter will love it! A ton of s for your cookbook!

http://pbskids.org/zoom/cafe/

By the way, that book I was telling you about is packed away in a box somewhere and I will not even begin to find out where. So, I felt obligated to at least contribute since I got you all excited. Just didn't want you to think I forgot about you.
