Question Does anyone know who to take a ...

hard from one computer that has missing critical files and will not boot up and hook it to another computer as a "slave" in order to use the working computer to access the files on the non-working computer?? I've had a few "techies" advise me that I can do this and retrieve the photos I have on a computer my boys messed up -- however, I have no how to do it?? Anyone here know how and willing to talk me through it???

Thanks darlin I'm not very optimistic that anyone knows how to me out with this but it's worth a try.

The move??? UGH LOL. It went OK. More expensive than expected. We're cramped in a small townhome right now while we're searching for a home to buy. The boys are in school (WOO HOO!!!) and they are doing well. One is trying out for the tennis team and the other is trying out for the football team. That's about the extent of things at this point By the way ... the adoption was finalized the day before we moved

Congrats on the adoption. That's alot to contend with at one time...but both happy occasions I think.

I read your post last night, and I was looking thru my fav.'s to find some for you...I got distracted. I found I'm having computer prob's of my own...sigh.

Anyway...one site that I have used quite often is
about.com/compute/. I used to get from Kim Komando's web site, but now for any in depth like yours and mine, she has this thing now where you have to join a club and pay. That was very disappointing.

Hopefully you can search the website I gave you and find some information.

Ellie

Thanks Ellie. I hadn't given a though to about.com ... I've used them for recipes and all kinds of other things ... but didn't think about computer troubles I'll certainly give it a try.

I've had others tell me the slave thing with the hard is the way to go ... but nobody wants to undertake explaining it. Some want me to bring my computer to them but these are people I don't know but they do live in my area. I'm not comfortable with this. I guess I should also try to contact the Geek Squad and see what they would charge for this.

I can already tell you that the Geek Squad DOES show up in the cars marked the Geek Squad LOL. I've seen them come out at the townhome complex we currently live in ... I've seen them twice!!! I called their line once and they sound like the Mod Squad voices too on the line LOL. Being such an avid scrapper ... I sure wish I had the extra money to call them to my home ... I'd definitely take photos
