Question?? Help needed,please.

I have a question for everyone. I really need some input on this as quickly as possible. My DH and I are planning to buy our oldest DD a laptop/notebook computer for Christmas. It will be like a Christmas/

with college gift since they are so expensive.

What I would like to know is if anyone has one or knows anything about them. I was told by someone yesterday that they lose their memory very quickly and are hard to maintain. This person said when she went to get one the sales person said she would be better off with a desktop computer. I really don't know alot about computers and darn little about laptops so if any one can

me out here I would really appreciate it.

This will be her only gift and I want it to be worth the money. I also would like ANY info on how this wireless connection thing works so
