Thank you everyone for your concern and thanks to my dil Tiffany for posting. She is a terrific girl.
Yes I was in the hospital in Ottawa for a week I guess it was where they operated on me twice within about 5 hours. Its a long story but I had blood clots in the leg and back in 1986 I had a vascular bypass to my legs done. They put a tube in then across the lower part of my abdomen and when I was admitted to the hospital this time, they found the tube had blocked up. So they opened me in the groin on both sides again, scraped out the tube, flushed my leg and figured I was going to be ok. About 5 hours later the deadness came back to my foot and leg and they rushed me back to the OR. This time they had to open the leg on both sides of my calf and expose the muscle. It is open wounds and I have a dressing on and am hooked up to a machine called a VAC which drains out the bad and puts in the good. This VAC will heal the wounds and I will be hooked to this machine for a total of 7 weeks. After which if the wounds haven't healed completely closed, I will have to go back to Ottawa for plastic surgery.
My husband and three sons went through pure hell with this episode with me. They knew the risks and I signed the papers giving consent for the doctors to do what they had to do. My risks were, to come out of the OR and be fine, to come out of the OR with one leg, or to die on the operating table. I was in so much pain I didn't care what happened. I feel bad that my family had to worry as much as they did for the 4 hours I was in surgery the first time. They did see me when I came out and I spoke to them for a bit and they left. I told them to come ahead home and not worry about me. When the pain came back a few hours later the doctor asked if I wanted my family here and I said no, there is no sense in worrying them any more than they have been. Its my problem and they will find out about this second surgery when its over. Well after the second surgery the doctor came to me and said, she just couldn't believe it herself. None of the doctors who operated on me or assisted in the OR ever expected to save my leg at the least but they said my leg and life was saved and it was nothing but a total miracle. They were amazed at the outcome and said I had an in there with me.
I came home and was in the hospital here for another week until I was more on my feet. I use a walker to walk now and get the dressing changed every two days. I am healing nicely but still a bit sore at times if I am on my feet too long. My foot swells then the leg gets sore. So I have been staying offline a lot since I came home as I can't sit here for long.
Anyhow. everyone for your thoughts and ers and if you have any questions I will answer them. I am just thankful to be here and back home with my family and again.
