Caramel Apple "casserole"
Serves 6
Preheat oven to 375 F.
Into a bowl sift:
- 1/4 cup sifted flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- pinch of salt
Add and blend thoroughly:
- 1 1/2 cups coarsely chopped, peeled apples
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (almonds excellent)
- 1/2 cup milk
Spread in greased 1 1/2 -quart casserole or 10 x 6 x 2-inch baking dish. Combine the following-stir until butter is melted and pour over batter in casserole:
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup butter or margarine
- 3/4 cup boiling water
Bake 40 to 45 minutes, then serve warm with cream, ice cream or
whipped cream.
