Where do you buy your books?

I hit the library sales and half.com. I've done some with Barnes and Noble online too. Just curious to see where others buy their books.

I love Barnes and Nobles and Half Price Books. Also, when I am looking for a series of books like the VC Andrews "Flowers in the Attic" series I go to the Goodwill! They have a great deal of books there for little to nothing!

I impulse buy at small independent book stores (bad habit for the pocketbook, but I like to support the indies whenever I can). I also have an educator's discount card at Barnes and Noble, so I buy stuff there sometimes. Often, I tend to buy from Amazon because I find that their prices are usually the best of the 3 big online chains (Amazon, B&N and Borders)...plus the free shipping with a $25 or more purchase makes it a great deal!

Currently, I'm the Scholastic Book Clubs coordinator for our homeschool grp, so I buy a lot of stuff there (nearly all our children's books). Their prices are great and the shipping is free. And, we get bonus points to get free books and resources.

So many good books, so little time (and money!)....

book sales

I'm very lucky. We have a great bookstore here in town, Gently Read Books, that sponsors literacy, so I'm able to get alot of my books there. Other than that, library sales, Salvation Army. On the weekends, we go to the Jockey Lot in Anderson, SC, where there is everything from books to food to animals to clothes to just about everything that you can think of to buy. I have found that I may not be able to outlast my 11-year old daughter when it comes to playing sports, but I can outlast her at the "Lot". She wanted to go home when we were half-way through the sales, and I had just gotten warmed up.

I belong to Doubleday Book club and get all my books from there. I get the new Danielle Steele books before they hit the stores. I collect her books and love reading them.
I also love Sylvia Browne's books.

I just discovered bargain books online at Barnes and Noble. Type in "bargain" in the keyword search and it will bring up a ton of bargain books. Free shipping when you order $25+, no sales tax outside NY and 10% discount (normally 5% online discount) if you are a reader's advantage member thru November 23rd. I'm giddy

I'm a cookbook collector too. I've been fortunate enough to find a few old ones at a library book sale, and at our used bookstore here in town. I really love to read the old recipes, they remind me of my grandmothers' cooking.

cookbook - off topic

I'm not a cookbook collector...but my dh thinks I am!! Ironically, dh is the cook in the family and he rarely uses cookbooks; he can watch something being made on FoodTV and duplicate it with wonderful results.

My MIL died almost 2 years ago, and I asked my FIL if I could have one of her old cookbooks. It's the cutest thing: an old Betty Crocker cookbook they got when they were married in the 50s. It has funky illustrations and tips on how to be a good housewife! But the best part of it was that she had kept a bunch of her own old recipes in there, including her mom's "famous" ch*cken and dumplings. Those recipes are going to be wonderful family momentos for our kids.
