Excellent Baby Food Cookbooks

& Resources too! I found these books at my local library and one of them even came all the way from Florida!

First Meals: Fast, Healthy & Fun Foods to tempt infants and toddlers by Annabel Karmel, copywright 1999, DK Publishing.
Great book, beautiful pictures, very thorough, I wish I could've kept it longer but I had to turn it in b/c someone else wanted it. Delicious recipe s. Great instruction for beginning baby food makers. Broken into stages of baby's age. A book I would like to own.

Mommy Made and Daddy Too: Home Cooking for a Healthy Baby & Toddler by Martha and David Kimmel, Bantam Books 1990.
No pictures in this book, but do you really need them? Great s and interesting combinations. Thoughtful notes about when to introduce foods to baby and its all broken into stages.

Organic Baby & Toddler Cookbook: easy recipes for natural food by Lizzie Vann, DK Publishing 2000.
Very PRO-Organic, but you can feel free to improvise, great tips too on feeding baby into the toddler years. Beautiful pictures, simple recipes, delicious combinations that you might not have thought of. Another book I would like to own. Also has great contact lists and web pages listed in the back for Health matters, Organic food suppliers, food safety, environmental groups, etc.

Homemade Baby Food: Pure and Simple, Your Complete Guide to Preparing Easy, Nutritious, and Delicious Meals for your Baby and Toddler by Connie Linardakis, Prima Publishing 2001.
And when they say complete guide, they mean it! This book is extremely thorough and even has s in the back for babies first birthday cake and party, homemade craft supplies and baby supplies, its a terrific resource, yet another I'd like to own.

Food for Little Fingers by Victoria Janest, St. Martin's Paperbacks 1997.
For the finger food eating kiddo...recipes to ponder as you puree. These are all things to make for a self-feeding child, but amazingly creative recipes and stuff that's great for the whole family. I really liked that she kept the book salt and sugar free and stuck to whole wheat bread when the recipe called for it...terrific book.

I really enjoyed scanning these books and getting great s for feeding Madeline. I hope that you enjoy these as much as I did!

Happy Baby Food Cooking!!!

I have tried all of these and I have made recipes for Madeline out of each of these books. They're all wonderful books that I would love to own, but for now, I just got them from the library.

These books really ed me develop more confidence for making Maddy's food. I didn't think I could do it, but its really easy and these books ed a lot! I guess they're the reason why I haven't been on Momzone as much the last few months. I've had my nose in books!

I really loved all the recipes for the purees. All the things that are appropriate for her age. These books tell you exactly how to do it! I'm so glad I found them!

Thanks, Claire.

I may have to check out the food for little fingers one. Mary won't eat pureed baby food anymore, so I'm trying to find s for healthy finger food.

Dawn, I think you'll really like it. I was so impressed with all the ideas she gave in that book. If you can't get it through interlibrary loan, I would try half-price books or online bookstores to find it. It was just published in the last 5 years so I can't imagine it being out of print. She had so many good tips in the front of the book too...Maddy's still eating pureed food, but she eats crackers...food for little fingers will provide fun recipes for her when she's got teeth. She still doesn't have any teeth!
Hey, I'm glad I could help!

More Books

I just wanted to add a few more books to the list of baby food cookbooks. These are ones that I've received in the last few months. I think my Mom lucked into all of these at a Half-Price Bookstore. A good place to look for cookbooks.

Baby and Toddler Food by Konemann books, Murdoch Books 1996.
I love the pictures in this book and they have really nice finger foods and food for the family in it.

Cooking Healthy with the KIDS in Mind by JoAnna M. Lund, G.P. Putnam's Sons 1998.
This is a plastic spiral bound book that lays flat so you can use it in the kitchen. Its got mainly cooking s for toddlers and pre-K kids. Lots of tips fill this book as well as practical looking recipes that are sure to be a hit with kids. On the cover "Get-Out-of-Bed Breakfasts, Super-Duper Soups (and sandwiches too), (Yes You've Got to Eat Your) Veggies and Salads, Fill-Em-Up Main Dishes, Delicious Desserts for Good Girls and Boys, Scrumptious Snacktimes, Birthday Party Bonanza...plus lots of menus and recipes for special family occasions." I can't wait to really dive into this book.

First Food & Family Meals by Sara Lewis, Lorenz Books 1995, 2000.
This book looks a lot like the "First Meals" book up top. Its got a lot of basic information to get you started and feeling confident about making your baby's meals. Its got practically step by step pictures to you with preparation of some of the meals. Lets you know about suitable foods and foods to avoid for each stage of baby's growth. I really am glad that I own this one.

Microwave Cooking for Your Baby & Child: The ABC's of Creating Quick, Nutritious Meals for Little Ones by Eileen Behan, R.D., Villard Books, 1991.
This book has a CPR section. I honestly have not looked through it, b/c I'm really on a roll with my stove-top steamer and the batch cooking I do. But now that I'm thumbing through it, I should really take a second look at this book. It takes you through the basics of what you need to do microwave cooking. The author has a quick reference section for what she calls her "top 100" (foods to cook in the mcrwve)...then she starts in with the recipe chapters. At the back of the book she's even got a chapter about what to cook when your baby has a bug or a tummy ache, then a question and answer chapter. WHY have I not looked at this book!?! I think the title turned me away. I've learned my lesson. Never judge a book by its title.

And a Lunchbox book for packing lunches (boy do I remember Mom getting into a rut with those) and being creative. I haven't even looked at that one b/c I mean really...I've got some time.

Happy Cooking!

ninarach is on a distinguished road
if you like these you will like "Super Baby Food" by Ruth Yaron. It is awesome. Lots of great tips & s for the home too. Very pro-organic. Which is good, but not a lot of organic around me.

I have a friend who owns "Super Baby Food"! Thanks for the recommendation Nina! I know what you mean about organic. Its not always affordable, I give all my fruit and veggies a in Ivory soap or that Fit stuff, whichever I have on hand. I feel like that should do the job.
