Hi!
I just have to tell people! As of today, I am a columnist! My first restaurant review/feature appeared in the local newspaper today.
Last month, I noticed that the local paper didn't have a restaurant review column and emailed the editor of the paper. He asked me to start writing one. The pay isn't much, but I have met some really nice people and I get a byline. It is a weekly column that appears on the 2nd page of the Encore section on Thursdays. The Encore section is where people look for things to do during the weekend and to find out what is coming up on the local calendar during the next week.
I am so psyched about this! Thanks for giving me a place to share my good news!
Unfortunately, my articles don't appear in the online edition of the paper. I tried every possible way to find my article online and couldn't do it. So, unless something changes and they start to put the entire paper online they will be inaccessible to all my . The paper just hired a new publisher, so he may change the online edition, if he does I will then be sure to post the paper's website.
Hi! It is on line! First go to www.newsvirginian.com then click on the Features section of the paper, when that screen comes up look for Clean Plate and click on that to get to my article. The article is going to be under that heading every Thursday.
These articles are on strictly local eateries here in Augusta and Nelson County in Virginia where the paper has its circulation base. We are on Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway. If you ever end up here, at least you'll know where the good places to eat are located and what sort of things they offer.
We are trying to stay away from the chain restaurants - except for the local ones. Scotto's Italian has a few locations here but, I believe they are branches of the original eatery that is here in Waynesboro. El Puerto, a Mexican place is another family owned local chain particular to this region of Virginia,
The column should be appearing every Thursday in the smae location. That is the current plan, anyway.
Thanks for all of the support. I sent a copy of the article to my brother (he writes for 3 columns for a monthly paper where he lives) and he liked it, too.
The best part of the job is it gets me out of the house and meeting new people. Which is wonderful, as I am new to this area of Virginia. Also, I have gotten to have some pretty good food, too.
