Help! Daughter's first slumber party.

My six year old just got invited to her first slumber party. I don't remember going to my first overnight until I was maybe in third grade. Am I being silly or is 6 young for slumber parties?

The other problem is that I don't know the parents of the birthday girl. Could anyone suggest what would be some appropriate questions to ask them about supervision, movies etc.

I don't want to be an overprotective mom, so if I am let me know.

I don't think you are being over protective. I didn't let my girls go to slumber parties because you just don't know anymore. One thing I would do is have my daughter talk to her friend on the phone while I was there and ask questions like, what movies will you be watching, who will be there, etc. It nixed some of the slumber parties she was invited to because I am very picky what the girls can watch. Hope that s. And if you decide to say no, explain to your daughter that you just don't know the parents and that you want to protect her. Good luck.

SarahLynn is on a distinguished road
I remember when my kids would want to go over to someone's house whom I had never met. I would have them call and I would talk to the parents to get an of what they were like. I would tell them what I would allow my children to see or do, and I would also ask them if they smoked, drank, etc. I don't think that you can be too overprotective of your children. They have only one life, and it is our job as parents to see that they are happy, healthy and safe. Most parents I talked to were very understanding, and after these conversations, they felt very comfortable sending their children over to my house, because they knew that their kids would be well taken care of.
