Whining 5 yr old

My five year old is starting to whine if he doesn't get his way.
I've talked to sevral women at my work with the same problem with their 5 yr old child or grandchild. They say it's normal and just a phase he is going through.
Do you think it's just a phase and I should just let it run it's course? Or do you know of any way I can nip it in the butt?

My daughter likes to whine. It's more for attention than anything. I tell her when she's ready to stop and talk to me like a big girl then she'll have my attention. Ignoring is so hard because it s us not them. We also started a behavior chart with a reward sticker at the end of the week. We've included - telling the truth, picking up toys and a few others. She likes it and wants to mark off what was done for the day. You can make up any kind you want but not to many because then it's to confusing. Good Luck.

Smile Whining 5 yr old

Nickolas my five yr old does the same thing. He thinks if he whines he will get what he wants. Sometimes I tell him to go ahead and whine it doesn`t bother me. He will stop sometimes but not all. His Daddy likes to give in when he whines. Which makes me , he is just wanting what he wants and thats all. When you give in to him his tears dry up fast.

That's awesome! Is he in K or PreK? The school held Shawn back because of maturity.

Smile

I didn`t send him this year. He takes speech class 2 times a week. When he was a baby he had trouble with ear infections and had to have tubes put in. They said because of them when he was supposed to be learning all the different sounds he couldn`t hear them. He is doing so good. I don`t believe he will need speech when he starts school. I didn`t have the heart to send him either. I dread next year. he is the last one i will have. its hard to let go some.

I am so glad to see I am not alone!!! My almost 4 year old is really starting to whine at every little thing I thought it was because of the new baby. Now that I know this is one of their phases I can stop and relax a bit. I love this website!!! You can find out much more from you ladies than some of my firends who end up making it a competetive thing with our kids! thanks so much!
