Exclamation Late Walker!

Well im a new mom and on top of that im still a young mom. I'll be 20 years old next month and i have a almost 21month old daughter. But the problem i'm having is my daughter is still not walking. Is this bad? I am a stay at home mom so i am constantly interacting with her and trying to get her to stand on her own, but eventually she gets mad at me. She knows how to pull herself up she walks along furniture and everything else she can hold onto, she crawl like ( really fast), and she climbs in and out of things all day long. I was wondering since i'm young is there something that i'm not doing that i could be? I'd love to hear what people have to say. And if you have any suggestions let me know. Thanks!!!

Wink

I think just encouragement and her feeling safe is a big part of it. My second daughter didn't walk until she was almost two and even when she started, she was real cautious and -- insecure looking when she was walking -- especially outside. She was when she was younger though -- RSV and was held a lot consequently.

My first daughter walked when she 9 months old and my son walked when he was about 14 months old -- every child is different!

I was only 23 when I had Olivia and I don't think that that has anything to do with how our children grow develpmentally -- I could be wrong, but I feel that as long as you are attentive and encouraging, that that is what they need to blossom.

I would say just keep up with what you are doing. Do you have any pets? My oldest daughter was really interested in our cat and was eager to get a hold of him -- I think that was an encourager for her. Sometimes also when they are around other young kids and see them interacting and moving around, it encourages them to do the same. Since it is warming up, going to the park and watching other kids and just encouraging playing -- walking, etc, might be good as well.

Good Luck!

Thanks. Yes i do know what RSV is actually my daughter did have it when she was a lil younger as well. and i did have to hold her alot to do all the breathing treatments. plus she was only 4lbs 9oz when she was born so for the first almost 5 months i still had to wake her up in the middle of the night to still feed her. Yes actually my boyfriend and i have a dog that she loves. she is constantly crawling as fast as she can to get him. We were definately planning on going to the park as much as we could to. And, my younger brother actually just had a baby a couple months ago that my daughter is very interseted in . Thank you very much for your input!!!!

Hi, congratualtions on your new niece or nephew! I'm to hear of your daughter's struggles with RSV. It is a very scary thing to have happen to your baby. I hope the walking is progressing well, or at least interest...

Hope to chat with you soon.
