This age is tricky because they like stuff from a distance..they really dont' want a big (Elmo) coming toward them..(seen that happen and then much ing) I think a few playmates with ballons and maybe party hats, are always nice. When my son turned 2 my mom got a dinosaur cake for his party and he wanted nothing to do with it. We took all kinds of pics and everyone tried to show him it was just cake..but no, he just wanted his fruit snacks... When they get older then you can go way out with the pony rides or clowns. for now just save your money. by the way, you may want to check out http://www.gebaccessories.com the kid's pillows make great snuggle travel mates and are great for daycares, or grannie's house.

We had Shawn's second birthday at the park. Actually we had his 4th there also. Free, something for the kids to do and out in the fresh air. We loved it & so did Shawn!!

Simple things like sidewalk chalk, bubbles, playdough...all that messy stuff they love!
It should be low key & NOT (Totally not!) "structured"! They also like their own music playing, like the Wiggles or any Disney CDs that you have lying about.

Some of you know I used to teach Daycare AND Nanny before I became a Mom! So I have seen these things in action. Also if you have Pizza and Goldfish crackers and cupcakes they will worship you! They live for that stuff.

We also got the cheap plastic drink cups, the party kind, and stickers, and the kids "decorated" their own drink cup, and then the adult wrote the child's name on the cup!

They liked that!

Well looks like I may be taking alot of heat soon as DHs side of family will tell me they never see my children, well they dont make the effort either. So the cook out we are having Sat will just be my parents and dh and the girls. I had cake and ice cream for them seperatly last year and it was like pulling teeth to get them to show up. I am glad she is still too young to really know whats going on.

I'm glad for your daughter. and I send her wishes. As far as hubby's family is concerned: Politely extend the invitation again this year, with their excuses not mattering, just so they can't say they were left out. Then go ahead and proceed with your "Baby's Birtday Party/Family Get Together, as planned.
You can't all the people all the time, especially if they make it difficult. As long as your hubby understands that all that matters, you live with him. Not them. WTG Girl!~HOLLA!!
