Toddler making self puke

Well here is my new eating situation with my son, who is 22 months.
At mealtimes he will not swallow food!
He will hold it in his mouth for up to 20 minutes! Then I have to GO in there and take it out, which gets him so he pukes!!!!!

Does anyone have any advice?!!!!

PLEASE HELP

Does he seem to be doing it because he is trying to be stubborn or for no known reason? How often does he do it? Does he eat anything at all without doing this? If he does this alot I would definetly atleast call the dr and see what they say. They may want to see him or they may just have some suggestions for you.

It is something new and he will do it mostly when I try a new food item on him or it is not one of his absolute faves like cheese or hot dog!

So I beleive it is a control issue.

If this continues I do plan to call the Dr for advice by the end of the week but I wanted to get you guys opiniond first!

Definetly sounds like he is being stubborn about not wanting the foods. I would say it isn't anythign medical if that is the only time he is doing it. Shawn wouldn't try alot of different foods at that age either. I couldn't even get him to put things in his mouth. ALl he wanted was broccoli and french fries. Good Luck mom!! DOn't get discouraged. Maybe just feed him the stuff he is used to eating for a little while. He will grow out of it.

I agree with Betsy! I wouldn't worry... continue to try the new food but if he doesn't like it wait a couple weeks to try it again. Silly little bugger!

kylan'smom has a spectacular aura aboutkylan'smom has a spectacular aura about
Kylan started doing the same thing, except he didn't actually puke. He just holds the food in his mouth and then lets it dribble out or spits it out. Gross!!!!! Yuck!!!! It is definitely a control/attention thing. He is 22 months as well, just started last month, but not really doing it that much anymore. After a while, wondering if he had a sore throat, his eating habits were changing, and anything and everything I could think of, I finally realized he was doing it purposfully. So, if he did it, I would take away his plate. Sometimes I would start eating it myself, and say "well since you don't want to eat like a big boy, mommy will eat this and will get you some baby food" He, of course, would pitch a fit. I would say "are you going to eat like a big boy" If he did it again, I would do the same thing again. You just have to be as persistent as they are. Like we still have the energy for that, but it's the only way to win the battle. He hasn't done it in a week or so.

Good Luck!!! We are in the same stage, and boy are they testy!! I still love him though.

Thank you so much! I was starting to feel like I had the only Kid who was doing this! Everything I looked at on the Web was all about Fussy Eating or Picky Eaters but not this!

I swear, I taught in Daycare for almost 12 years with Infants & Toddlers and never saw a Kid do this! He won't spit it out OR swallow it, so I have to go get it! It is really nasty & stressful. I am trying to remain calm & consistent, though, like you said!

Thanks again, I am so happy to hear from you....especially as it is almost Dinnertime! haha

I know what you mean about thinking your son is the only one that does this. I was starting to wonder myself. That may mean we have a pretty tough road of braun and brains a head of us, huh? heehee Well, everytime Kylan gets to be a little too testy, I just think about how that persistency and consistancy may pay off in his adult life. Hopefully!!!! I hope your son stops soon. I'm sure I haven't seen the last of it. He's probably just waiting for me to put my guard down. heehee. They are way tooooo smart for their age. You know?

A few days have passes since I posted my problem with my son & he seems to be doing better. I must admit that I am kinda sticking to foods I know he likes rather than trying a lot of "new" foods right now. After about a week I may tryo to introduce some new foods to him & see how he does!
Thanks you guys for all the advice, also it ed just to "talk" about it & see that he is not the only Kid who does this!

well after a few quiet days Duncan is at it again tonight!

I dared to give him sausage, since he likes hot dogs (cut up of course). He also likes waffles so I tried pancakes. He ate a few bites of that but when I gave him the sausage he did his usual freaking out. This time he puked all on his own, I didn't even touch him!

Now he is eating some Rice Krispies at the table like 3 feet behind me.

You guys, this is really ting me. Everyime I try to introduce new foods is he going to pull this???? He can't live on the few foods he DOES eat for the rest of his Life! This is ridiculous!!!
